One Good Earbud

I have written an article on running and music
here, but needless to say good running music needs good headphones. However, one problem of using headphones is that you become unaware of your surroundings, and especially during a race or running in traffic, it can be very dangerous.

This is where the One Good Earbud comes to save the day. As the name suggest, it is just one earbud instead of the customary two. The advantage of this is that you are able to hear what is going on around you. The disadvantage is that instead of hearing your music in both ears and getting a rich sounding experience, your music all goes through one headphone.

So, are the One Good Earbud's good enough to give you an enjoyable musical experience whilst on the move, whilst not compromising your safety?

This review will also look at the BuDLoKs motion resistant eartips, which you can use to make the earbuds fit better.

The two units that I reviewed are the wrap around and the in-ear (with BuDLoK eartip)

Wrap Around

The Wrap Around earbud is available for either the right or left ear. Using the ear hook, the unit will comfortably fit around most ears and stay in place, on even the most strenuous of activities.

In Ear

The In Ear earbud will fit in either the right or left ear, and comes with three different ear tips, to make sure that they fit in most ears.

To provide an even better fit for strenuous activities, it is possible to purchase the BuDLok ear tips. They come in three different sizes, with one set for the right ear, and one the left.

The rubber tips easily fit over on the earbud, and greatly improve the fit of the earbud.

The earbuds come with a generous length of cord, so you can place your music almost anywhere on the body and the headphones will reach the ear. The most important thing about the One Good Earbud is how the music sounds. Whilst it is not the same as having two headphones in, it is certainly an acceptable compromise, and the music is channelled into the one earbud. WHen you have two headphones in, and take one out you only hear half the music. With the One Good Earbud, it is designed to be listened to as one earbud so the sound is not as bad as you may think.

The Single Earbud retails for £14.99, the Earhook earbud also retails for £14.99, the back of BuDLoKs will cost £7.99.

There are also One Good Earbud's with a microphone, so that you can talk on your smartphone whilst on the move.

It is all available for the
Sport Explorer UK ebay page.

Conclusion

I think the One Good Earbud idea is fantastic and one which I would encourage runners to explore. Listening to music is a great way of motivating yourself before and during a session, however your safety is certainly compromised because you can't hear what is going on around you. By having just one headphone in, you get the best of both worlds. Yes, there is a compromise in sound quality, however this is offset by the additional safety provided to the runners.
